In various cities across Asia, where development (both spontaneous and officially planned) is rapidly changing the physical shape of urban space and thus affecting people's lives on many different levels, it is urgent to reconsider our approach to architectural heritage management. The established field of academic urban studies and its official practitioners have presented certain possibilities whose limits are now clear, given the new global force of commercialization and changes in population.
This session, while emphasizing historical perspective and respecting theoretical insights, seeks to go beyond such academic framework of thinking and define a new future agenda by seeking some actual solutions vis-a-vis the built heritage in our urban environment. Papers based on actual problems are welcome as well as those of a more speculative nature.
